Time to upgrade my operating system, Hurd isn't ready yet, so I guess it will have to be linux again.
I want something popular but without spyware, so Linux Mint?
I hear Debian edition isn't what it was anymore, so Ubuntu based.
Cinnamon or Mate....
Anyone ever thinks we have too much choice in the FOSS world?
Also, please don't require Twitter or Facebook to filter "fake news" for you.
If you think it is a the responsibility of some US company to filter opinions for you to be properly informed, then you have a grave misconception about your own role in the process.
If it is so easy to manipulate elections through fake accounts, why am I not doing it?
What are the top 3 issues the social minded tech savvy person should be solving?
I am wondering whether there is a mode to Mastodon, where I am getting all the information only by talking to my instance, instead of having to go through the other instances.
E.g. to get the full context of a toot, I am now clicking on the time on the top right of the toot and go to the server of of the instance of the toot.
In the case of mastodon.social all I get is "ERR_CONNECTION_REFUSED".
[Why Isn’t Telegram End-to-End Encrypted by Default? – Telegraph](http://telegra.ph/Why-Isnt-Telegram-End-to-End-Encrypted-by-Default-08-14)
"I've been getting this question more often this year. It's based on the wrong assumption that some other popular messaging apps such as WhatsApp are "end-to-end encrypted by default", while Telegram is not. This post is intended to disprove this myth that has been so carefully crafted by Facebook/WhatsApp marketing efforts. Let’s start from the basics."
As someone who doesn't care at all about the local timeline, I just realized that everyone speaks French here.
Hm, apparently #letsencrypt now provides mor than 50% of the web certificates.
On one hand: FUCKING AWESOME.
On the other: Shit. They're getting very powerful and we are centralizing our trust. I think we could reallu use 2-3 new orgs like Letsencrypt, with similar technology and mission statement, but entirely independent.
Are there any out there yet?

On the blocking of instances:
I'd love a system where you can easily hop accounts from one instance to another, without losing your identity (maybe through private/public key crypto).
That way you blocking instances would become a cat and mouse game and open the door for a couple of censorship resistance techniques.
Please don't just post links to your twitter posts. This kind of defeats the purpose, doesn't it?
I've been hearing a lot of prominent people speak about surveillance and privacy, but when I hear Richard Stallman talk about it, it really struck a chord with me.
"We need a law. Fuck them — there’s no reason we should let them exist if the price is knowing everything about us. Let them disappear. They’re not important — our human rights are important. No company is so important that its existence justifies setting up a police state. And a police state is what we’re heading toward."
Fediverse folk!
Don't forget to boost interesting stuff.
The system relies solely on organic discovery.
We on small instances depend on boosts quite a lot!
I don’t actually know why but I was overcome with the need to make this,
…sorry
This is Mastodon
Wow, this is old news (June 2017), but... how can I support this?
https://www.engadget.com/2017/06/19/eu-proposes-banning-encryption-backdoors/
"The European Parliament has proposed amended regulation that would not only require end-to-end encryption when available, but forbid backdoors that offer guaranteed access to law enforcement. EU residents need to know that the "confidentiality and safety" of their data is "guaranteed," according to the draft, and backdoors risk "weakening" that privacy."

PLEASE TAKE AWAY MY COPY OF PHOTOSHOP, THANK YOU.
So I am debugging this weird issue where some debug outputs that I expected to be there were not there.
Hours later, I figured out that this isn't an issue with my program.
